HYDERABAD: The Legislative Council adopted a resolution condemning the humiliating treatment meted out to the students from Andhra Pradesh who were studying in Tri Valley University of the USA.
The House also expressed its solidarity with the NRI students who staged a protest outside the White House against affixing RFID tags to their legs.
The issue was raised as a special mention in the House by Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy (Congress) who described it as suppression of human rights and high-handedness of the US authorities. He sought to know what kind of legal aid and other help is being extended to the students by the State and Central governments.
Mr. Chukka Ramaiah (Teachers) said it was not the US Government but some local agencies which played a role in misdirecting and misguiding the students seeking admission in the US colleges and universities. He demanded that such dubious agencies be controlled.
Legislative Affairs Minister D. Sridhar Babu said the State government is deeply concerned over the issue and the Chief Minister had written to the External Affairs Minister and Overseas Ministry seeking help for students from the State. The government already initiated the necessary measures, he added.
