Hyderabad: The Inter second year results declared on Thursday recorded trends that have now become a norm. Hyderabad fared poorly compared to districts, girls outperformed boys even as the overall pass percentage of students dropped by 1.42 per cent this year. While 64.6 per cent had passed in the Intermediate Public Examination (IPE) last year, this year it’s 63.27 per cent.
While a total of 8.97 lakh candidates appeared for the inter second year exam this year, 5.01 lakh cleared it. As per the grading system adopted by the Board of Intermediate Education, a total of 1.9 lakh students secured ‘A’ grade (above 75 per cent) and 1.5 lakh secured ‘B’ grade (60 to 74 per cent).
Like in 2010, girls outshone boys this year. While 66.39 per cent of girls passed this year, 60.61 per cent of boys cleared the test. Among districts, Krishna with 76 pass percentage was the topper followed by Ranga Reddy, Nizambad and Chittoor with 72 per cent. Vizag scored 70% pass percentage. Hyderabad district, however, figured at the bottom with 59 pass percentage.
While formally announcing the results, minister for secondary education K Parthasarathi said that government colleges had scored better than private colleges in the state. The government colleges recorded 73.42 pass percentage.
In what could be called an attempt to rein in private colleges, the minister said that colleges that advertise the ranks of their students to attract more admissions would be penalised. “The colleges cannot declare that they have got top ranks. The board is instructed to de-recognise colleges that violate these norms,” the minister said. According to board officials, students can apply for re-verification before May 9. The mark sheets of students will reach their colleges by May 3.
