Medical PG counselling process slow-paced
Posted on : 30-04-2011 Source : The Hindu

VIJAYAWADA: Candidates continued to seek clarifications to various doubts on the second day of the counselling process for admissions into medical PG and diploma courses being held at the Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences here. The process proved to be slow-paced with only 90 seats getting filled by 4 p.m. The counselling had to be stopped for about an hour around noon when one of the rankers complained that lower rank candidates were called before him. The officials had to spend a lot of time to find out if the candidates entered the hall without getting registered at the gate, which led to this boy not being called for the counselling though he was present on the spot.

Roster system

Most candidates, who approached the university authorities, sought clarifications on the current process of filling seats based on the 100 point roster system. The G.O. 74 indicated that the filling up of seats in accordance with their allotment to various categories of students would be continued up to 100 roster point where it would be stopped. Once again, the process would be re-started as per the original roster. A roster is prepared by allotting seats one by one to OC general, SC woman, and various other categories.

The university officials clarified doubts on the reverse roster, which was nothing but the stopping of filling up seats as per the original roster at 100 point. At each roster point, candidates would be called in from each of the three university areas of Andhra, Osmania and Sri Venkateswara.

At around 4 p.m. on Friday, the counselling reached nearly 50 point roster which meant nearly 150 students got seat allotment so far. Sixty three students had got admissions on the first day of counselling on Thursday.

The authorities heaved a sigh of relief when there was no protest from any quarter on the process of the counselling.

The best rankers also did not resort to any protest on the present process of filling local seats first, as most of them decided to attend the counselling for a second time when non-local seats would be filled.
