SANGAREDDY: Academician and Legislative Council member Chukka Ramaiah has recalled his relationship with the district headquarters as well as Siddipet in Medak district. He recalled on how students pursued their education with utmost difficulty.
Great teachers
“I worked here in 1950 as a teacher when I was 22. There was no high school here. There were great teachers during that period and one of them is Shankarappa, who took me to his house and hosted me for 10 days,” Mr. Ramaiah said while participating in Career Mela- 2011 organised by MNR Educational Institutes in Sangareddy on Sunday.
Stating that one of his students, Rami Reddy, had opposed holding classes on Sunday on the ground that he had to bring prepared food for three days, Mr. Ramaiah said, “He used to consume the food prepared at home for three days. In the remaining three days he used to prepare food here from the material brought from home. What to do for the next one week if the class was conducted on Sunday is the question by him for which there is no answer.''
He said that Rami Reddy later went on to become head of the department of physics, Osmania University.
Recalling another incident at Siddipet, the MLC said that one Sidda Reddy has pursued B.Sc. degree course at Siddipet college as he could not afford to by books.
“He admitted that he is studying B.Sc. as he need not buy new books for degree as the books of his elder brother are available,'' he said narrating how backward Medak district was and how difficult it was for students to pursue education financially.
Mr. Chukka Ramaiah also recalled his relationship with Mr. Raju when he worked as a teacher in Vivekavardhini school.
