Bioinformatics or computational biology is the use of information technology in the field of molecular biology, or the application of computer technology to the management and analysis of biological data. Here computers are used to gather, store, analyze and merge biological data. It is an emerging interdisciplinary research area and is increasingly being used to improve the quality of life. For trained bioinformaticians jobs as researchers, scientists, database specialists, programmers, business analysts and project directors exist in companies involved in innovative development of drugs, agricultural products, genetically modified crops, and medical and forensic tool kits. Other job options are with pharmaceutical firms, academic institutions R&D organisations, academic institutions, software companies, biomedical organisations, bio tech companies,and product and marketing companies besides the huge agricultural sector.
